Law & Order:Criminal Intent deals with Mental Health

I have always found that there is one TV show that deals with Mental Health relatively well and that is Law & Order: Criminal Intent, particularly the character Detective Robert Goren played by Vincent d'Onofrio.  Now it is widely known that I have a 'made for tv' crush on that particular character, but what has really caught my attention recently is his time spent in therapy.   In the show they portray his mother as a schizophrenic and the Detective deals with depression/anger issues and the fears of the  being alone/not able to manage a relationship.

Today I was watching a taped episode and at the end of the hour, Detective Goren meets with his therapist.  The clip above is perfect and I feel like I could be in his chair, asking the same questions of my therapist "Am I capable of a relationship?? A family?"  The therapist's response is classic therapy "Well, we could work towards that goal."  I'm sorry, but not only is that an infuriating response, but WHAT THE FUCK DOES IT MEAN????  How does that help?  It does not advance the therapy session at all.  It is one of those moments in any type of therapist, patient relationships where you just want to scream at the top of your lungs.  I am glad I was able to capture it, even badly with my iPhone.  I am also glad that a tv show is demonstrating some of the frustrations of mental health in an honest way.

just in case you missed it - Palin on Saturday Night Live

She and Tina Fay did the opening together. My favourite tv show is 30 Rock so it was such a pleasure to see Alec Bladwin and Tina Fay on together.

She was also on Weekend Update. It was a riot. It was interesting that they (the directors of SNL) didn't actually let her do anything. When they have had other politicians on, they have had them actually speak and state their case. She was probably too volitile. Good planning on thier part. Who knows what type of trouble whe would have gotten the Republicans into. I would think that they are all terrified everytime she opens her mouth, especially after the Katie Couric debacle.

Fascination - "How to find a husband"

I PVRed (exactly like TiVo) a few weeks ago, a few episodes of a show called "How to Find a Husband". I finally got around to watching an episode of it today. I am kind of fascinated. The host, Sally Gray, is a British t.v. host, and she has given herself 10 weeks to find a husband.

I am watching the episode for week 9. I wish that I had found this show at week 1. She's dating 5 people and its so interesting to see that the men are really not so comfortable with her dating a ton of different people. I wish that she would treat some of them better and take some of there emotions into consideration. I wish that I could find her list of tips online somewhere. I did find her website here, but throughout the show she has had some great ideas.

Anyway, if you can catch it, its worth watching.

Project Runway - blahhhnesssss

I really wish that this season of Project Runway was more exciting. I am not loving it. I saved them all on my PVR and have been watching them for the last too weeks. I have too say that I miss the Austin Scarlet's of last season and some of the past talent. I'm missing it. It's jsut not there this season. I have to say, the fact that I know that annoying christian wins is driving me crazy. Glad that I don't know who the other two finalists are. hope that they aren't Gillian and Veronica. They drive me batty. I assume that as they are woman they will have to have one of them on. Sweet P is certainly not going to last........
